Dear Issaquah School District families and staff,
Thank you for your patience as we worked to assess all our sites for safety, clear debris, assess impacts from several days without power and check roads and bus routes. At this time, we are ready to open most of our school buildings. These buildings have been cleared for safety and have power restored.
Schools that are open will start school on a 2-hour delayed schedule on Monday, November 25. See the open/closed status of schools and programs, below.
The 2-hour delay means:
-
Before and After School Care (BASC) will begin at 9:30 a.m.
-
ISD Skyline Preschool Academy classes begin at 10:30 a.m.
The following programs are canceled:
-
All before-school activities.
-
ECE, ECEAP.
-
Out of district transportation,
-
Updates for the following activities will be communicated by each school:
-
Field trips, athletics, after-school activities.
-
Extended Day Activity (EDA) buses, communicated by 1 p.m.
Internet/Phones
While most schools are open, our internet and network services are down at all sites due to storm damage to fiber lines/utility poles and is not expected to be restored this week. We have asked our teachers and staff to be prepared for a "low tech" day and ask that our students be ready for this too. This also means:
-
If you have an emergency and need to reach your child’s school, we can field emergency calls only to our Admin Building main phone line, 425-837-7000.
Bus Routes and Traffic
Road closures will affect bus routes. There are a few routes that are inaccessible, and these have been cancelled. If you are providing your own transportation, allow for extra time due to higher than typical traffic.
Transportation will communicate directly with families on impacted routes. There will also be a list of impacted routes posted on our website as soon as available.
Meals
We will have menu adjustments for students who buy lunch at school. We will feed students, but meals may vary from our typical menu items. If your student would prefer predictability, you may want to consider sending lunch from home. If your student’s school typically serves breakfast, we will not have our typical menu items but will do our best to have some options available.

Puget Sound Energy has predicted that a few more schools may have power restored this evening or may make progress for power restoration ahead of estimated times. Due to planning for bus routes, food services, site preparation and staffing, we are using the information as of 4 p.m. for each site so we can prepare. If power comes back on overnight or in the morning, it will be too late for the schools to get warm and to ensure we have adequate Food Service and Transportation.
We know you have many questions about make-up days, upcoming tests, events and activities. Our staff will share answers and updates as soon as possible, but we expect staff to support students by making alternate timelines for tests and assignments.
I am grateful for the resilience of our students, staff and families; for the neighbors who helped neighbors over the past five days; and for the strength and teamwork I anticipate in the days ahead as we continue to tackle challenges together.
Your grace and patience are appreciated as we work through the impacts of the unprecedented storm that significantly impacted all aspects of life in our community. We are doing our very best and will continue to share information about what is happening and why with our regular updates. We plan to update the community about any school closures again by tomorrow (Monday) at 5 p.m.
Please continue to share this information verbally with your neighbors, and by text, phone calls and social media with those who you think may not have received our messages.
In partnership,
Heather Tow-Yick
Superintendent
