New Agreement Strengthens Support for Students and Educators and Expands Support for Inclusion
Good news from our schools! We are excited to share that our district and the Issaquah Education Association (IEA) have ratified a new three-year collective bargaining agreement that will take effect September 1, 2025, and continue through August 31, 2028. Approved at the last school board meeting, the final agreement reflects the educators and district’s shared commitment to enhancing the daily classroom experience for students and the educators who serve them. This agreement strengthens inclusion and support for students with special needs, honors the professional expertise of our educators, and adjusts the school day, benefiting students, staff and the community.
The recent collaborative bargaining process demonstrates our shared belief that students are at the center of every decision and that by working together we can build on our tradition of excellence to help every student thrive. Most noticeably, this agreement adjusts the end-of-day bell schedule, adds instructional time and better aligns the school-year calendar to allow more flexibility for weather-related events. The bell schedule adjustments extend the school day by five minutes for all elementary schools and five middle schools, except Issaquah Middle School, which already includes an additional five minutes in its daily schedule. Updated transportation details will be shared with families before the school year begins for those impacted by this change.
The bell schedule adjustments and some calendar updates were informed by last November’s bomb cyclone, which required state-level waivers, and a rethinking of professional development scheduling. As a result, October 17, 2025, will now be a student day rather than a teacher workday. We will also share an updated version of the 2025–26 calendar as soon as possible to allow time for review and coordination with all departments and bargaining groups.
