Legal Notices for the 2026-27 School Year

As we begin the new school year together, we are sharing important information and updates for students, families, staff and community members. These updates will help you know where to find additional details about student discipline, public records, cell phone policy and procedures, legal notices and more.

 

Handbooks (Conduct/Discipline)

Parents and caregivers, please be familiar with the content of your student’s school handbook, which includes important information about topics such as attendance, dress code, academic expectations, student conduct expectations and discipline, health information, information about activities and athletics, and more.

Handbooks for each school are available on the school websites, or on the district website.

 

Safety Concerns

If you have an urgent concern, believe a crime was committed or want to report suspicious activity, please call 911. If you have a less urgent safety concern, you can report it on our website. The same page of the website also has the option for students or families to report harassment, intimidation or bullying. Safety Concern Report

Please include the name of the school and as many details as possible, so that our staff members can investigate and/or respond appropriately.

 

McKinney-Vento Supports

Families experiencing homelessness have the right to immediate enrollment, educational stability, and may qualify for school-based supports and services. For more information, visit the ISD McKinney-Vento webpage.

 

Cell Phone, Smart Device Updates

The Issaquah School District Board of Directors adopted Regulation 3245: Student use of Telecommunication Devices. This regulation establishes minimum expectations for the use of personal electronic devices throughout the district. Please review the regulation and also your student's school handbook for any additional requirements specific to your school.

Why Regulation 3245 Matters:

• Supports mental health: Encourages face-to-face interaction, limits distractions, reduces social media pressures.
• Models safe & respectful use: Devices may not disrupt learning, violate privacy, contain explicit content, or be used for cyberbullying.
• Developmental approach: Expectations grow with student age, building healthy digital habits and personal responsibility.

What is a Personal Electronic Device?

Personal electronic devices (PED) are privately owned, portable electronic devices used for communication, information access or other functions. Examples of PEDs: smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, portable media players, gaming devices, tablets, Bluetooth/wireless headphones and other mobile/smart devices.

Use of personal electronic devices while on district property is considered a privilege and not a right. All authorized use at school must comply with district regulations, school rules and applicable laws.

Exceptions

Students having an Individual Education Plan (IEP), 504 Plan or Individual Health Care Plan (IHP) that includes specific accommodations for assistive technology may use a cell phone and or PED during the school day following the process outlined in the student’s IEP, 504 Plan or IHP.

Parent Rights Notification

Issaquah School District is committed to providing a curriculum that is relevant and allows students to engage in inquiry about real and relevant issues in a way appropriate to their age and development. We respect the right of students to discuss or examine economic, political, scientific, or social issues of significance, to have free access to information, to study under teachers in situations free from prejudice, and to form, hold, and express their own opinions without personal prejudice or discrimination.

During inquiry lessons students examine diverse viewpoints that represent the range of perspectives in our schools and community. In classes such as humanities courses students study current issues in our world. Particularly as students progress through middle and high school, students are likely to encounter topics related to conflict in society or stories of people facing personal challenges. Occasionally such lessons include topics that can trigger an emotional response, especially if students have had past related traumatic experiences. When these topics come up, the teacher will prepare students and establish an environment where these topics can be examined safely and productively. Please review your student's course syllabus and class communication, where the teacher indicates known topics that may be considered sensitive topics by some students.

If there are known topics that may cause your student distress due to past traumatic experiences or if there are topics that run contrary to a religious beliefs, please inform your teacher and work with your teacher to understand how such topics are approached and develop a plan appropriate for your student. We want to work together to provide a safe, positive learning experience for your student.

Public Records

Public access to the district’s records is provided in accordance with the Washington Public Records Act (RCW 42.56). While many records are available in full or in part for public inspection, certain information is protected from disclosure under federal and state privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), due to the district’s responsibilities to students, families, and staff.
