Proposed Levies Continue Funding of Critical Programs, More
With about one week left until Election Day, we’re sharing a few facts about the three proposed school funding measures that help fill the gap between what state and federal funds supply for our students and the actual cost of providing vital student services and programs in our district. To learn more about Prop. 1, the Renewal Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy, which provides 15.6% of the district’s operating revenue, visit www.isd411.org/levies. The site also includes details about Prop. 2, a Renewal Capital (Technology & Construction) Levy, and Prop. 3, a Transportation (School Bus) Levy.
Levies help support improvements in schools across the district and help provide resources, technology and opportunities to succeed for all ISD students. Renewing these levies would help support students’ mental and social-emotional well-being. Levies help fund nurses, counselors and health professionals to support students inside and outside the classroom. They also help pay for:
- The seven-period day in the high schools
- Student and classroom technology to provide guaranteed and reliable access as well as equitably updated technology
- Critical repairs at our schools, such as HVAC and roof repairs with a focus on safety as part of a regular maintenance schedule.
- Family partnerships and equity programs that ensure all students receive the supports they need
- Extracurricular activities and athletics
- Special Education
- Multilingual/English Learners program
- Highly capable program
- Elementary Dual Language Program
- Summer school
- Support services such as custodial services, maintenance and repair, school safety and security.
- Student transportation, including bus driver salaries, fuel and maintenance.
