School Board Approves Updates to 2025-26 School Year Calendar

The Issaquah School Board approved updates to the 2025-26 school year calendar at its September 11, 2025, meeting. These changes are designed to keep student learning at the center while also creating consistency for staff and families. The updates stem from the agreement approved with the Issaquah Education Association in August 2025 and reflect ongoing coordination with all employee groups. 

Our goal throughout this process has been to align schedules in a way that avoids extending the school year whenever possible. This new agreement and bell-time adjustments provided flexibility to add overall instructional time for students, while still supporting professional development opportunities for staff. 

Key Updates to the Calendar 

• Breaks and Holidays: All breaks and observed holidays remain the same. 
   
• October 17: This date is now a regular school day for students, rather than a teacher workday. 
   
• State Waiver for January 26, 2026: The district has applied for a state waiver to count January 26 as a teacher professional development day that does not reduce required instructional time. Students will not attend school on this day. If the waiver is approved, the last day of school will be June 16, 2026. Families will be notified once the state makes a decision. 
   
• Inclement Weather Days: Designated weather makeup days are March 13, March 30, June 17 and June 18, 2026. If additional makeup days are needed, they may be added during the week of June 22, 2026. 
   
• Last Day of School: If the state waiver for January 26 is approved, the last day of school will be June 16, 2026. If it is not approved, the last day will shift to June 17, 2026. 

We appreciate the coordination and support of all bargaining groups, community input and School Board guidance in finalizing these updates.
