Support One Another for Suicide Prevention Month, All Year Round
Our district students, staff, families and community members can all work to build positive protective factors for one another by fostering supportive relationships, teaching and encouraging coping skills, and connecting to health care. We can all also provide support and take steps to help keep members of our community safe during times of crisis.
The national nonprofit SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) offers “10 Self-Care Activities to Try,” to help ensure physical and mental fitness, and relieve stress. Visit their website for the 10 ideas.
As September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, we are re-sharing resources that are available to help support all of us. Our Suicide Prevention Resources page of the website has multiple options for help, including:
- The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, reachable at 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
- The Crisis Text Line: Text “HOME” to 741-741.
- The Trevor Project, specifically for the LTBTQ+ community: 1-866-488-7386.
Washington state recently shared the resource “Hear Me WA,” which isn’t specific to suicide prevention, but offers support for a child, teen or someone they know on many topics, including suicide prevention, stress, anxiety, threats, sexual abuse and more. It is designed exclusively to help anyone ages birth to 25.
Another resource for general support is Care Solace, a central hub that helps connect our students, staff and their families to care. There is no cost to have Care Solace help match providers for mental health and substance abuse to your needs, and the help is available around the clock, including holidays, and in more than 200 languages. Learn more or access Care Solace Services on our website.
