Update: Students in K-10th Grade Welcome to Apply for '5,000 Days'

General Announcement Icon for Announcements

We’re excited to announce an extension of the deadline and also opening the application to all grades between kindergarten and 10th grade. From those who apply, 20 lucky students will be selected to participate in the district’s “5,000 Days Project.” Those chosen will receive a film of their lives growing up at every age between the start of the project and graduation.

Since 2011, the 5,000 Days Project has followed a group of about 20 Issaquah School District students as they progressed toward graduation. The participating students were filmed each year to share their experiences in life and school. The end products are like a video "scrapbook" of their school days, with items added each year such as pictures, interviews, short film clips, artwork, and more. The special stories of a number of these students have been shared in video documentaries on our YouTube channel.

Why a video documentary project?

This project is just one way that we assess our system against our district mission, vision and “Ends” (goals for students), all of which stretch far beyond academics. We want every student to graduate mentally, emotionally, physically, and socially prepared to live satisfying and successful lives. Therefore, we must look beyond traditional standardized tests and get to know what is happening with students at a deeper level to monitor how well our schools and our community are serving children. Today's classrooms are complex, dynamic environments, and we would like to invite every community member to see that firsthand through the eyes of our 5,000 Days participants.

To apply, please submit this form by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 2. Please note that we will be selecting students to come to an in-person audition, which will be held during the week of March 17-21. This audition will be required for any student who is selected to move forward in the process.
