Cougar Mountain Middle School 1606
The new Cougar Mountain Middle School, formerly known as MS#6, opened in March 2022. The 130,000 square foot facility can house approximately 900 students in grades 6-8.
With approval by the Capital Projects Advisory Review Board, the Issaquah School District is using Progressive Design Build on this project. The process brings the designer and builder team on earlier to help with a project's design and construction costs. The District feels this alternative process was well-suited to the new middle school project.
Cougar Mountain Middle School (formerly known as Middle School #6) will be a high performance building. The educational program will include core learning environments, a science suite, music, athletic facilities including an all-weather turf field, community spaces (Library, Gym, Commons with stage and dining), administrative areas, special services and building support spaces.
The new middle school site is located on approximately nine acres of property at the entrance of the Talus community in Issaquah. A community Boundary Review Committee was formed to recommend a revision of K-8 District boundaries to accommodate the opening of Middle School #6/Cougar Mountain Middle School as well as Elementary #16/Cedar Trails Elementary School.
