Purpose

We're thrilled to invite students, families, community members, and industry partners to a rare opportunity: helping design our newest high school before it even opens its doors.

The Goal

Issaquah School District is announcing an opportunity for students, families, community members, and industry partners to help shape the design of our newest high school, opening Fall 2027.

The New High School Advisory Team is being formed to help design a school with career-connected pathways in Engineering & Robotics, Entrepreneurship, and Health Sciences, and to help build a student experience, curriculum, and school culture that reflects the community it will serve.

The Team

Advisory Team members will: 

  • Share feedback, input, and ideas as our Core Design Team shapes the student experience, curriculum, and school systems
  • Bring their own perspective as a student, family member, community member, or industry professional to help inform a school built with the community.

Advisory Team Structure:

We are recruiting up to 27 members to create a team that is both manageable for meaningful discussion and representative of the communities we serve.

Representation will include the three comprehensive high school feeder patterns, Issaquah, Liberty, and Skyline as well as Gibson Ek, ISD alumni, and industry partners.

For each feeder pattern, we are seeking up to:

  • 2 parents/guardians
  • 3 middle or high school students
  • 1 elementary student
  • 1 community member

District-wide representation will include:

  • 1 Gibson Ek student or family member
  • 1 ISD alumni student or alumni family member
  • 3 industry partners representing areas connected to the new school’s initial pathways: Engineering & Robotics, Entrepreneurship, and Health Sciences/Nursing
  • 1 district-appointed administrator

How will the team operate?

The team will meet monthly with district leaders and members of the Core Design Team to review in-progress plans and share feedback drawn from members' own experience and expertise. Meetings will run from October 2026 through June 2027, with optional virtual office hours offered for members who want additional touchpoints, and a few community moments along the way, like our October Community Engagement Event.

Is this team for you?

We are looking for students, families, community members, and industry partners who:

  • Can commit to the full advisory term and attend meetings consistently
  • Are willing to actively participate in group discussion
  • Can engage in inquiry by listening, asking questions, and collaboratively generating ideas
  • Have genuine hopes and ideas for the future of education
  • Bring expertise or interest connected to Engineering & Robotics, Health Sciences/Nursing, or Entrepreneurship (a plus, not a requirement)

When will the team meet?

The team will meet once a month on a Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Meetings will begin in early October 2026 and run through June 2027. Specific meeting dates will be shared with selected members ahead of the first session.

We will review applications and select up to 27 members to ensure broad representation across our three high school feeder patterns, Gibson Ek, alumni, and industry partners. We will notify those selected during the week of September 21, ahead of our first meeting in early October.
