Annual public hearing about proposed school district budget
Each winter and into the summer season, the district finance office prepares a budget for the upcoming school year.
Each summer, the School Board holds a public hearing about the planned budget. That meeting is usually held during the first board meeting of August, with action taken at the second August meeting in time for a board-approved budget to be sent to the Office of Public Instruction in Olympia by August 31.
Any person may attend this public hearing to speak on any aspect of the budget. Copies of the proposed budget are available to anyone by calling 425-837-7024. Board meeting dates are available on line or by calling 425-837-7002. Public notices about budget hearings are also printed annually in local newspapers.
Asbestos Notification
The EPA requires the Issaquah School District to notify the school community that asbestos building materials are present in some buildings. The District has taken steps to provide for safety of students, staff, and parents related to such materials. Asbestos building materials are safe when they are maintained in a stable condition. The District's asbestos management program has been in place since 1988 and consists of surveillance, inspections, response actions, records, and training for maintenance and custodial staff. For a copy of the plan or for more information, please call our Maintenance Supervisor, at 425-837-5052
Childfind
The 2004 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act requires all school districts to locate, evaluate and provide services for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children between the ages of birth and 21, who may have a disability. If you are concerned about your infant, toddler or preschooler's development or if you have a school-age child or adolescent who is having learning or behavioral difficulties, call the school psychologist at your child's school or contact the Assistant to Director - Special Services at 425-837-7090.
Harassment/Intimidation/Bullying Statement
The Issaquah School District is committed to a safe and civil educational environment for all students that is free from harassment, intimidation or bullying. In order to ensure respect and prevent harm, it is a violation of Regulation 3207 for a student to be harassed, intimidated, or bullied by others in the school community, at school sponsored events, or when such actions create a substantial disruption to the educational process.
If your child feels they have been harassed or bullied, the incident(s) should be reported immediately to a teacher, counselor, or principal. Children bullied on the bus may report information to the Transportation Director. The complete text of Regulation 3207: Prohibition Against Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying, Regulation 3205: Sexual Harassment of Students Prohibited, and Regulation 5013: Sexual Harassment Prohibited - Personnel, Volunteers, and Visitors, can be obtained at any school or on the ISD website. Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. See complete FERPA details.
Formal Grievance Process
Any person who believes the Issaquah School District has failed to provide reasonable accommodation or discriminated against them because of their disability may discuss their grievance with the District's Director Human Resources who serves as the Compliance Officer within 30 days of the incident. If the individual feels they cannot approach the Compliance Officer because of their involvement in the alleged discrimination, the individual may directly contact the Superintendent of the Issaquah School District before pursuing formal procedures.
The Compliance Officer or designee will attempt to informally resolve the complaint and shall notify the complainant within thirty (30) calendar days of a proposed resolution. If the discussion with the officer or Superintendent does not resolve the issue, the individual may proceed to the formal review procedures of District Regulation 5010. During the course of the informal process, the District will notify complainant of their right to file a formal complaint.
The District's Director of Human Resources may be contacted at 425-837-7060.
Free and Reduced Lunch Program
Children from households that meet Federal income guidelines are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches. All students eligible for reduced prices receive meals at no cost (the state of Washington subsidizes $0.40 co-pay for all grade levels). To apply for free or reduced-price meals the applicant must complete a District Application Form requesting free or reduced-price lunches. We would like families to fill out the online application as those results can be processed in the most timely manner.
If using a paper application, please return completed applications to your child's school office or mail your application to Issaquah School District Food Services, May Valley Service Center, 16430 SE May Valley Road, Renton, WA 98059.
Gender-Inclusive Schools
In compliance with RCW 28a.642.080 we are committed to fostering an educational environment that is safe and free of discrimination for all students, regardless of gender expression, gender identity, or sex. To that end, the district recognizes the importance of an inclusive approach toward transgender and gender-expansive students with regard to key terms, communication and the use of names and pronouns, student records, confidential health and education information, communication, restroom and locker room use and accessibility, sports and physical education, dress codes, and other school activities, in order to provide these students with an equal opportunity for learning and achievement.
This policy is a component of the district’s responsibility to create and maintain a safe, civil, respectful and inclusive learning community and will be implemented in conjunction with comprehensive training of staff and volunteers.
See Regulation 3211 and 3211P.
If you believe that you or your child have experienced unlawful discrimination or harassment at school based on gender expression, identity, or sex you can discuss your concerns with your child’s principal or with the District’s Gender-Inclusive Schools Compliance Coordinator.

Issaquah School District Social Media Community Standards
The Issaquah School District (ISD) social media accounts celebrate learning, share important updates, highlight achievements and build strong connections with our community. We value open, respectful dialogue to ensure our social media platforms remain a welcoming space for students, families, staff and community members to connect and share. We ask all users to interact in a way that reflects mutual respect, even when opinions differ.
Respectful Engagement and Content Moderation
Our district welcomes thoughtful feedback, comments and questions on its social media platforms. Users may disagree with ideas, but all interactions must remain civil and respectful. Comments may be removed without notice if they:
- Include personal attacks, insults, threats or harassment
- Contain defamatory, vulgar, offensive or otherwise inappropriate language
- Promote or suggest illegal activity
- Contain spam, harmful links, repetitive and/or unrelated content
- Share false, misleading or libelous information
- Advocate for commercial activity or private business interests
- Include direct or indirect links to peer-to-peer payment platforms or crowdfunding requests
- Pose a security risk, such as suspected malware or phishing
In some cases, ISD may issue a reminder about its community standards, but warnings are not guaranteed before action is taken. Comments that violate these guidelines may be deleted or hidden at the discretion of the district, consistent with the tools available on each social media platform. Repeated or serious violations may result in users being blocked or banned from future engagement. Comments that imply or instigate violence, or appear criminal in nature, will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
Protecting Privacy and Shared Content
ISD asks users to not post private information such as addresses, phone numbers or student records. Users should only share original content or content they have permission to post. The district reserves the right to remove and/or hide content that is not original or may violate copyright laws. By tagging ISD or its schools in a post, you grant permission for the district to share or repost that content on its official social media accounts.

Standard Tort Claim Form
Washington state law (Chapter 4.92 RCW) requires a Standard Tort Claim Form to be submitted when filing a tort claim against the Issaquah School District. Standard Tort Claim forms cannot be submitted electronically (via e-mail or fax) but must be mailed or delivered to the address noted in the forms packet.
Surplus District Property
The District typically holds one public surplus sale per year to dispose of surplus items, including technology equipment. State law requires that items be declared surplus by the Board of Directors at a regular Board meeting prior to sale. Following this declaration, an advertisement of the surplus sale is published in a local newspaper at least 30 days before the sale date.
Sales are usually conducted at the May Valley Service Center. The District does not permit pre-sales or the reserving of items; all interested parties, including employees, must attend the sale in person as members of the public.
On an as-needed, ongoing basis, the district also disposes of surplus property through online auction at GOVDEALS.COM.
