6608 - Video Cameras on School Buses

The District recognizes that the likelihood of safe operation of the District's school buses is enhanced by appropriate student behavior on school buses. Random placement of video cameras on school buses has demonstrated positive effects on student behaviors. Because random placement of video cameras on its school buses enhances safe bus operations, the District endorses and authorizes the use of video cameras. Students who violate rules of conduct for buses as contained in Regulation 6606 and related procedures are subject to disciplinary action in accordance with Regulation 6606 and Regulation 3240 when such violations are witnessed by the bus driver or other witnesses and/or filmed by District video cameras.

The superintendent shall develop procedures concerning use of videotapes, privacy issues related to viewing of videotapes and driver involvement, and knowledge concerning installation of video cameras and equipment.
