How We Communicate Closures and Delays
In the event of severe weather, power outages, or other emergencies, the district may adjust schedules to ensure the safety of students and staff. If we decide to delay the start of school or call for a full closure, we make every effort to announce those changes by 6 a.m. Whenever possible, we announce decisions earlier than 6 a.m. If you don't hear anything from the district, school will open on the usual schedule.
How we notify families and staff (methods may vary depending on the nature of the emergency or access to communications tools during outages).
- Email: Messages come from the district using the bulletin system.
- Text: You must be ‘"opted in" – see instructions below.
- Flash Alert message (displays on local TV stations). You may also *subscribe to FlashAlert notifications – see instructions below.
- District and school websites.
- Official district social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter).
- Robocalls: staff only, unless regular communications tools are not operational.
Text Messages: If you are not receiving text messages from the ISD and would like to, send the word "Yes" or the letter "Y" to the number 67587 from the cell phone number that is listed in your Family Access account. You must opt in for text messages from a mobile phone number that is listed in your guardian Family Access account. Only the "primary guardian" (as classified in Family Access) can sign up for text messages from the ISD. This is a limitation of Skyward Family Access.
*FlashAlert Notifications: FlashAlert is the system the district uses to send emergency school closure or delay information to local media (TV, radio). Parents/caregivers, staff and community members may sign up to receive notifications via email or text (by creating an account and providing an email address and phone number) or by push notification to their phone by downloading the FlashAlert Messenger mobile app.
- Visit the Issaquah School District Flash Alert page to sign up and create an account.
- Download the FlashAlert mobile app by searching for FlashAlert Messenger on your Android or Apple/iOS phone.
