The District's academic program is based on consistent, standards-based curriculum and materials delivered with fidelity at the highest levels by skilled teachers.

Overview

Every day in Issaquah classrooms, we work toward our mission statement: "Our students will be prepared for and eager to accept the academic, occupational, personal and practical challenges of life in a dynamic global environment." As a District, this includes building an educational experience for students that has a strong foundation in core subjects, provides opportunities to discover personal passions and interests, develops competency in emerging technology, and helps students design an ethical compass so they can act as responsible, healthy national and international citizens. Our School Board has defined these essential learning goals in four ENDS for Students (see below).

Overseen by the Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) department, the District’s academic program is based on consistent, standards-based curriculum and materials delivered with fidelity at the highest levels by skilled teachers. TLS provides powerful strategies, data, and resources to teachers, principals, and educational assistants as well as direct services to students, resulting in powerful learning.

Four learning goals provide the foundation for the development of all academic learning standards in Washington state:

  • Read with comprehension, write effectively, and communicate successfully in a variety of ways and settings and with a variety of audiences;
  • Know and apply the core concepts and principles of mathematics; social, physical, and life sciences; civics and history, including different cultures and participation in representative government; geography; arts; and health and fitness;
  • Think analytically, logically, and creatively, and to integrate technology literacy and fluency as well as different experiences and knowledge to form reasoned judgments and solve problems; and
  • Understand the importance of work and finance and how performance, effort, and decisions directly affect future career and educational opportunities.

Our learning standards are developed through collaborative, public processes informed by educators, administrators, community members, parents and guardians, and stakeholder groups across the state and nation.

ISD Ends and Academic Policies

A core responsibility of the Issaquah School Board is to develop a Mission and "Ends," which are areas of knowledge and skill that all students must master by graduation to successfully live and compete in today's dynamic global environment. The Mission and Ends listed below set the educational direction for the entire District (click on the End for the more detailed description).

End 1 Mission
Our students will be prepared for and eager to accept the academic, occupational, personal, and practical challenges of life in a dynamic global environment.

End 4 Life Management and Personal Awareness
