Technology for Students in Need

Computers and internet access are necessary resources for students to access class material and online tools. All students in grades 6 through 12 will receive a laptop for checkout from their school. Families who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch are eligible for a free surplus computer and/or internet access for the home.  More information about the Free and Reduced Lunch program can be found here, or check with your school office staff.  

Desktop computers and laptops

ISD computers that are ready for surplus are made available free of charge to families receiving free and reduced lunch services. If your household qualifies for free and/or reduced lunch, and you would like to be considered for a free computer, complete the form below, write the name of your school counselor on the "Name of Staff Member Requesting Computer" line, and return to your school counseling office.

Surplus computers may have Windows 7 which will need to be updated to Windows 10. Families may upgrade the computer to Windows 10 free of charge.

PCs for People is an external organization that provides technology for families in need. 

Internet access

There are a few options for internet connectivity at home for students based on financial need. 

Students may be provided an ISD-issued Hot Spot if they are in need of assistance with internet connectivity at home. Families will be asked to complete a form, below are links to the form. If you need additional assistance or a printed copy, reach out to your school counselor

Families who qualify for the Lifeline program may receive discounted phone and/or internet service.  Families eligible for other federal assistance programs such as SNAP or Medicaid will also qualify for Lifeline. Qualification may also be granted based on income levels.

After you qualify, choose a phone or internet company near you and sign up for service with them. You can also ask your current company to apply your Lifeline benefit to a service you are already using.
