Great Careers 2026 took place at Lake Washington Institute of Technology in Kirkland!

On Tuesday, March 3, over 120 Issaquah School District high school students attended the annual Great Careers event. The event took place at the Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech).

Students connected with local organizations in the expo hall, learning about in-demand careers in fields like healthcare, public safety, transportation, and the trades. One student shared that the most valuable part of the event was "the ability to talk with people about their jobs." Another agreed: "The open discussions with [exhibitors] provided me with the valuable insight of people actually working in the fields I'm interested in." 

Students toured several exciting programs offered at LWTech, such as Auto Repair & Auto Body, Baking, Digital Gaming, Dental Assisting & Dental Hygiene, Diesel & Heavy Equipment, Machining, and Nursing. They were able to explore campus, hear from instructors, and even enjoy a baked good made by LWTech students. This year, students could also have a professional headshot taken by a talented ISD student photographer and attend a "Find Your Why" session offered by LWTech Career Services.

Great Careers provides students with the opportunity to explore careers they're interested in — and potentially ones they've never considered. One chaperone shared, "[Because they attended Great Careers], one of our seniors now wants to join the Funeral Services program at LWTech!" Another chaperone shared that this event encouraged their students to "think about earning potential, schooling, and what their next steps would be."

Great Careers 2027 will take place next winter at Renton Technical College. Stay tuned for more information! Each Issaquah School District high school offers many career-related resources and events throughout the school year. Students and families can check with their school's College & Career Center for details.

Great Careers 2025 took place at Bellevue College!

On Thursday, February 27, over 240 students from all four Issaquah School District high schools attended Great Careers, marking the highest student attendance in the event's history. It took place at Bellevue College, which is a popular choice for postsecondary education among ISD graduates due to its proximity and diverse program offerings. The event was held in Bellevue College's beautiful new U Building.

Students networked with exhibitors in fields such as emergency response, construction, and government. The students enjoyed meeting with the wide variety of professionals to learn about post-high school career options. One student shared that, "The exhibitor time was very useful since I got to connect with professionals from different industries and get a better idea of the working world." Another mentioned that the event was helpful in terms of "getting to feel more comfortable about my future and getting a lot of advice." 

Students also toured Bellevue College on the sunny winter day. The tour included conversations with instructors and students, such as those in the Diagnostic Ultrasound program. One student exclaimed, "I've been considering going to Bellevue College after High School and this made me consider it a whole lot more." A chaperone excitedly shared that "I had one student immediately email me afterwards, asking for help applying to the BC Diagnostic Ultrasound program!"

This year's event also included a Lunch & Learn, featuring panelists in commercial real estate, HVAC, and higher education, as well as two drop-in sessions provided by LWTech Career Services and Renton Technical College Career Services.

Great Careers will be back in March 2026 at Lake Washington Institute of Technology! In the meantime, students can reach out to their school's College & Career Center for career-related events, programs, and resources.
