State Assessments

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) replaced No Child Left Behind (NCLB) on Dec. 10, 2015. It is the re-authorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The ESSA became fully operational in the 2017-2018 school year. 

Assessments Administered in 2022-2023 (Spring of 2023)

  • Smarter Balanced tests: English language arts (ELA) and math for grades 3-8 and 10
  • Washington Comprehensive Assessment in Science (WCAS) given in grades 5, 8, and 11
