Kindergarten Ride Along: Aug. 8, 2024 (Reservations are CLOSED)
We are excited to have your student enrolling in kindergarten this year. We would like to extend an invitation to you and your student to RIDE THE BIG YELLOW SCHOOL BUS. No matter what school your child will be attending, you will meet the bus at Issaquah High School 15 minutes before your reservation time. You and your student will enjoy a bus ride around Issaquah and a short introduction to school bus safety procedures that will run about 30 minutes. The bus will not go to individual schools or bus stops. This is a simple introduction to the school bus, bus rules, and street crossing procedures.
Students who will attend Cascade Ridge, Grand Ridge, and Challenger are invited to attend, but please be aware that these are walking only schools and no bus service will be provided for students who attend these schools.
Date: Thursday, August 8
Time(s): Rides will begin at 9 a.m. with the final run beginning at 12 p.m. Some time slots are already full. Please register early to save your spot. Registration closes at 11:30 am on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
Reservations are required to participate in the Kindergarten Ride Along.
Please fill out this 2024 Kindergarten Ride Along form to register. If you need to change your reservation, please email Transportation-Enews@issaquah.wednet.edu.
Mandatory Transportation Release Forms for Kindergarten
Kindergarten students must always be released to their parent/guardian or designee. A Transportation Release Form is required and must be signed by the parent. You may provide up to 6 designees on the list. Proof of identification will be required. Transportation personnel are dedicated to making students' daily bus ride a safe and enjoyable experience. Completed Kindergarten release forms can be submitted:
- Email: Transportation-Enews@issaquah.wednet.edu
- Mail: 805 2nd AVE SE, Issaquah WA 98027, Attn: Kindergarten Release
- Bring it with you to the Kindergarten Ride-along
- Last resort, you make give it directly to your bus driver
It is very important that we receive the release form before school starts.
If you need to add a person to the release form, you will need to fill out a new form and send it into the Transportation office or hand it to your bus driver.
Please attach or enclose a recent picture (headshot only) of your student. You may only have one face to remember, but our drivers have many faces and names to learn and remember.
Kindergarten Enrollment Timeline and Transportation Procedures
Kindergarten is an exciting and important time for your child. Issaquah School District Transportation Department staff are pleased to be a part of this experience. We have established the following timelines and procedures to aid in the scheduling and routing of school buses for Kindergarten students.
Full day kindergarten students will ride the same bus as the other students attending their neighborhood school (or school of attendance).
Half day kindergarten students will ride the same bus in the morning as the other students in their neighborhood (or school of attendance). Mid-day transportation will not be provided by the district. Parents/guardians will be responsible for picking their child up from school at the end of the three hour half day morning session.
Timelines
Here is what you can expect as Transportation makes plans for your kindergartner starting school in the fall:
Phase I | Kindergarten registration begins in February. Enrollment is always open but it is recommended that you enroll your new Kindergartener as soon as possible. Kindergarten Ride Along opportunities will also be open for RSVP during this time. |
---|---|
Phase II | Bus riding kindergartners who enroll between August 14 and August 31 should use the ESTABLISHED bus stop/route closest to their homes—available from school offices—and follow that schedule. |
Phase III | Transportation staff will work with students who register after September to set up bus routes on an individual basis. Parents may have to provide transportation for a few days until bus transportation can be assigned to the student. |
Transportation Services personnel are dedicated to making students' daily bus ride a safe and enjoyable experience. Thank you for taking the time to read through and understand the process.
