Special Education

ECE students that are deemed close contacts to any positive cases, will need to quarantine for 7 days, to return on day 8, with a negative COVID test, regardless of whether the student is vaccinated or not.  This COVID test will be no sooner than 48 hours before ending quarantine and can be either a rapid antigen test (RAT) or a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.  If the student was a close contact to a school positive case, they will be offered a rapid antigen test as a return to school test for convenience of families.

Yes, students served in special education are general education students first. Our special education students follow guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), Seattle and King County Public Health (SKCPH) and stated school policies.

Reach out to your student’s case manager and/or school principal to let them know your meeting is not yet scheduled. They will ensure a meeting is set-up to ensure your student gets the services they need. 

Schools are building recovery services plans and your building level team will communicate about start dates. Reach out to your student’s case manager and/or school principal if you have additional questions.

Yes! While we will continue to encourage and teach mask wearing and hand hygiene, if a student with a disability is unable to successfully wear a mask, they are still welcome at school. The Special Education teacher may reach out to you to discuss your child’s individual needs or ask for a note from your doctor. The special education teacher/case manager will also document in a Prior Written Notice the agreed upon plan to support your student.

Yes! All students with IEPs will access all their specially designed instruction and general education classes as written in their IEP and their individualized schedule.

Recovery services meetings will happen this fall per our E-news message in June 2021. Parents and caregivers will be hearing from the special education teacher/case managers by Friday, October 1, 2021 to set up these meetings.
