Policies & Guidelines

ISD Online Learning follows District Regulation 2024P which is in accordance with OSPI regulations and state law. 

Online Learning Course Enrollment Limitations

• Limits to taking online courses to meet High School Graduation Requirements: 
  • Per District Regulation 2410P, for purposes of high school graduation the following are limits on using online learning credits toward the 24 credits required for graduation:
    • 50% of each subject area graduation requirement must be completed in-person (ex: 4.0 ELA credits are required to graduate, 2.0 must be taken in person)
    • No more than 2 high school credits taken online per school year may be applied to graduation requirements, and
    • No more than 8 high school graduation credits can be applied to graduation requirements.
    • Online Learning no longer counts as an outside credit. 
       
• Limits to taking online courses for High School Grade Improvement 
  • Up to 2 credits may be taken for Grade Improvement purposes
     
• Limits to online course enrollments for summer school.
  • High School students may take 2 semester online courses and no more that 3 courses total including courses taken in-person and courses taken online.
  • Students cannot take a yearlong course during summer school. 
  • All other students are limited to 1 semester course online.

• Limits to course selection
  • Per ISD Regulation 2024P, students may only take courses that are offered at their grade level, or for summer school, courses that were offered at their grade level of their prior year, with the exception of courses that are taken for enrichment that are not offered in person.
  • Middle school courses are supplemental to the student's schedule.  Middle school students must maintain a full in-person course schedule.  Exceptions due to exceptional need are determined by an individual problem-solving team.

Academic Records

• Students receive the actual course grade earned (A-F) on their Issaquah School District transcript. Letter grades are granted as given by the provider and may be different than Issaquah School District's grading scale.
   
• Students taking an Independent Study course will receive a P or F on their transcript. Independent Study courses are not NCAA eligible. 
   
• Families are responsible for determining if the course meets NCAA and college admissions requirements. Not all courses are NCAA approved. More information on NCAA eligibility.
   
• All courses will be added to a student's academic record and impact their GPA (middle and high school). Summer courses are considered part of the academic record of the grade from the previous school year (ex: courses taken the summer after 8th grade are part of the 8th grade academic record). 

• High school courses taken in 7th or 8th grade will automatically be added to the student's high school transcript. Students can request to have their grade removed from their high school transcript when they are in high school. 

• Credit for Online courses:

a. Online courses from selected OSPI-approved providers and taught by District teachers will be granted credit in the same manner as other course offerings in the District. (Ex: Online Health during Summer School)

b. Issaquah School District will grant credit only for courses taken through Issaquah School District Online Learning using selected OSPI-approved providers. Credit will be granted in the same manner as other course offerings in the District and in accordance with 2410P.
