Online Learning

Grades 8-12:

• Online Health (0.5 Health credit, no CTE credit)

CPR/AED class and certification card is required to earn 0.5 credit in Health. Students are responsible for signing up for a class (virtual or in person). The list of organizations that offer the class can be found in the student application. The CPR/AED card will need to be current. Cards expired on July 13 or earlier will not receive points. Students will need to upload their card in their canvas course to receive points and be eligible to receive the 0.5 credit in Health.

Grades 9-12:

• Introduction to Computer Science (0.5 CTE credit)
• Introduction to Culinary Arts (0.5 CTE credit)
• Future Ready (0.5 CTE credit)

• Accelerate teacher or ISD teacher assigned to each course
  • Teacher grades work, provides feedback and answers student content questions via Canvas message and/or zoom
• ISD mentor assigned to student
  • Mentor supports student with staying on track, providing program updates, and is available to help students design a schedule to plan out their course

A student may be assigned the same teacher and same mentor for the duration of summer school.

  • Students may use their personal laptop or desktop at home
  • Self-directed
• Maximum of one (1) semester long course
• Students can expect to spend 15-20 hours per week
  • Students earn 0.5 credit for high school level course work
  • Placed on high school transcript
  • Counts towards high school GPA

*Students in Online Health may have to go in person to take their CPR/AED class to earn their certification card.

• Up until School Day 2: Student may drop with no grade penalty
• School Day 3-5: Student will receive a W on transcript

High School Level Coursework (school year 2025-2026):

Middle School Level Coursework:

• Grades 5-8 during 2025-2026 school year

Elementary Level Coursework:

• Grade 5 during 2025-2026 school year

• Students will earn a letter grade for their course (A-F).
• High School Level Courses (taken by students in grades 8-12): Final course grade will be placed on the student’s high school transcript and count towards their middle school academic record.
• Middle School Level Courses (taken by students in grades 5-8): Final course grade will count towards the student's middle school academic record if the course is taken in grades 6-8. If a middle school level course is taken by a student in 5th grade, their final grade will not be reflected on their elementary or middle school academic record. All final grades will be shared with family, student, and middle school counselor/admin team to offer future course guidance if needed.
• Elementary Level Courses (taken by students in grade 5): Final course grade will not be reflected on students elementary or middle school academic record. The final grade will be shared with family, student, and middle school counselor/admin team to offer future course guidance if needed.
• If a student is taking a course for grade improvement, the highest letter grade will count towards the student's GPA. Both letter grades will appear on a student's transcripts

Important Note: If a student fails an Online course and/or consistently fails to follow Online Learning policies, they will be unable to enroll in future online courses with ISD Online Learning.

Students can use their personal laptop or desktop for their summer school classes. However, they can check out a district laptop with their school, restrictions apply. Please email OLSummerSchool@issaquah.wednet.edu if you would like to request a school district laptop for the duration of online summer school.

Students take Online Learning for several reasons. Please make sure to meet with your counselor to discuss if Online Learning is a good fit and the reason why you want to take this course.

• Acceleration: Student is looking to advance their math or science pathway through middle school course work. Coursework can only be taken when offered at their current grade level.
  • Examples:
    • Students in 5th grade or in Math 1 in 6th grade, who are registering for Math 2/3 for the 26-27school year can take Math 7A online. This will help prepare students for Math 2/3.
• Course Not Offered: Course isn't offered at your school during the school year.
• Support Class: Student is retaking a course or is addressing missed learning in a course they have previously taken.
  • Examples: Students in 5th grade who received a 1 or 2 in Math or ELA or 6th-8th graders who want to retake the second semester of their current Math or ELA course to be better prepared for next year.
• Enrichment: Student is taking a course of interest (middle school only).
• Credit Deficient: Not enough credits in subject area.
• Grade Improvement: Student is taking same course again if they earned a D or higher.
• Learning Style: Student is taking a new course and wants the opportunity to take an online course vs an in-person course.
• Medical: Student cannot take course in building due to a medical reason.

• Before starting the course: Drop with a refund minus processing fee ($400)
• Day 1 - Day 5: Drop with partial refund ($300)
• Day 6 & Beyond: No refund

Days include weekends and holidays. If payment is not received by due date, student will be dropped from course and ineligible to take the class for summer school.

Please make sure to complete and submit the Participation Agreement imbedded within the application.

Students will attend their required student orientation independently, which will be imbedded in their course on canvas. Students will work through the module before they start their course.

Optional Student Orientation Via Zoom:

• Wednesday, June 10 at 4pm (5th grade only)
• Monday, June 15 at 6pm (Grades 6-12)

There is no in person testing requirement for summer school 2026.

• $450/course.
• Some courses require textbooks or CPR/AED certification. Student/family is responsible for obtaining and purchasing course materials and obtaining CPR/AED certification. Please check out your specific Required Textbook/Material List to determine if purchasing materials will be required.
• Scholarships Available.
• If payment is not received by the due date, students will be dropped from course and ineligible to take the class for summer school.
